Welcome to the Market Center
The Market Center was founded in response to a 2018 law making it illegal for mothers working in the market to bring their children to sit with them in their market stalls. Sitting in the market for 12 hours, six days per week, is definitely not ideal. The problem has been the complete lack of childcare options for the working-class parent. No mother wants to take her vulnerable child to sit in the sun or rain, beside the busy, polluted street, with no place to play. The Tanzanian government asked Walk In Love to open a daycare center to give these mamas a better option. We are so excited to be able to provide these hard-working women with an alternative. We are the first daycare that is accessible and affordable to the average, working class family.
Walk In Love is excited to extend our valuable resources to a very needy community. The Market Center is located in the Unga Limited neighborhood of Arusha, Tanzania. This is one of the most densely populated and poverty-stricken areas of the city. The Market Center is walking distance to several busy market centers, making it easily accessible for the women working there. The Market Center, provides safe, affordable childcare to 50 children, allowing their parents the freedom to work and provide for their families. This property also has enough space for a huge garden and chicken project which will reduce food costs and could be a future outreach project for mamas.
The Market Center is one more great way that Walk In Love is providing vital resources to help families thrive and strengthen our community. The families of the Market Center pay 30,000 Tanzanian Shillings per month, the equivalent of 50 cents per day. The center needs your help to subsidize the cost of operations. Please consider sponsoring a child or visit our donation page to make an on-line donation. Your support makes our work possible.
